Inspector Avek is an Ak’Tiar, which is essentially elven military secret police. After the murder of Roy Reyes II, he forced Daeris’s hand into a deal to work for him. Daeris kept this arrangement a secret from the party for a while to give them plausible deniability, but now they’re all in on it.
